JOHN WEHRLE


Biographical Information

Wehrle has designed and executed public and private mural projects throughout California, in Illinois, and on cruise ships in France and Japan. Wehrle studied art at Texas Tech University (B.A. 1964) and Pratt Institute in New York (M.F.A. 1969). In 1966 he was the leader of the first Army artist team sent to document the war in Vietnam. His paintings from that experience are in the collection of the Smithsonian Institution. From 1969 to 1973 he was an assistant professor at the California College of Arts and Crafts in Oakland, and teaching adult and children's art classes at the DeYoung Museum in San Francisco. His work has been exhibited in group and solo shows throughout California, in Seattle and Bellingham, Washington, and in New York. In 1992 he completed two murals for a mall in Valencia. He lives in Richmond, in northern California.
