ELOY TORREZ
Biographical Information
Born in New Mexico, Torrez (born 1954) lived in the desert city of Barstow, California, for 13 years, before moving to Los Angeles at age 23. He earned a B.F.A. at Otis Art Institute, where one of his teachers was Charles White, and fellow student Kent Twitchell was also an influence. Before doing his first public wall he had a CETA job restoring murals, which was administered through Alonzo Davis' Brockman Productions. In summer 1991 he completed a major mural project, sponsored by the French Ministry of Culture, in a low-income apartment complex just outside Paris, France.
