FRANK ROMERO

Biographical Information

A native of East Los Angeles, Romero (born 1941) received a scholarship to study drawing at Otis Art Institute while still in high school. He also attended California State University, Los Angeles, where he met and became friends with Carlos Almaraz. In 1973, the two of them, along with Gilbert Lujan and Roberto de la Rocha, founded a local art collective known as Los Four. Los Four collaborated on numerous murals and on other public art installations throughout California during the next 10 years, having a major influence on defining Chicano art. Romero's work has been exhibited in solo and group shows all over the United States, as well as in Mexico, Japan, and Europe.
