WILLIE MIDDLEBROOK
Biographical Information
Middlebrook was born and raised in Compton, and received his AA from Compton Community College. He has received many grants and fellowships. His work has been exhibited throughout the United States, including at the Studio Museum of Harlem, the Art Institute of Chicago, and the California Afro American Museum. Middlebrook is well known for his improvisational "photo-painting" portraits, which he considers a collaboration between those he photographs and himself. He continues to live and work in Compton.
