ALBERT HERTER


Biographical Information

Born in New York City, Herter (1871-1950) studied in Paris and at New York's Art Students League. In New York he operated his own company, which manufactured hand-woven textiles and tapestries. For many years he divided his time between New York and Santa Barbara, California. In addition to his mural at the Los Angeles Public Library, he did a project in the dining room of the St. Francis Hotel in San Francisco. He later focused his talent on doing portrait commissions.
