RAFAEL RIVERA ESCAMILLA


Biographical Information

This well-traveled Salvadoran painter was born of campesino parents and the first member of his family to receive a primary education. Escamilla (born 1955) studied architectural drawing at the National University in San Salvador, then came to the United States after traveling through Central America and Mexico, painting as he went the rich traditional lifestyles he saw. He works in acrylic, oil, watercolor, tempera, colored pencil, and ink. His paintings are in private collections in Central and North America, as well as in Europe.
