ALLYN COX

Biographical Information

Son of muralist Kenyon Cox, Allyn (1896-1982) grew up in New York. He studied painting on a four-year scholarship at the American Academy in Rome. His father also was an important influence, and during the early 1920s they painted several murals together. Allyn's work at the Clark Library in south-central Los Angeles was his first major commission. He is best known for the frescoes and oils he painted over a 30-year period inside the U.S. Capitol in Washington, D.C.
