SAMUEL ARMSTRONG
Biographical Information
Armstrong (born 1893) was born in Denver, he studied at the School of Industrial Art in Philadelphia and at the Mechanics' Art Institute in Rochester, New York, with Albert Herter. He was art editor of the Tacoma (Washington) News Tribune from 1918 until 1929, and founded Tacoma's Armstrong School of Art in 1923. During the 1930s, Armstrong lived and painted in Santa Barbara, California. One of his murals is at Santa Barbara's Fox Arlington Theatre. He is perhaps best known for his cover illustrations for Sunset Magazine.
