Description
An expanded version of the Bible's Genesis 1: 25: "And God made the beast of the earth after his kind, and cattle after their kind, and everything that creepeth on the earth after his kind; and God saw that it was good."
THE FIRST SPRING originally hung in the library of Central Junior High School. However, a year after the mural's completion the school was closed in order to turn it into the Administrative Offices of the Los Angeles Board of Education. At the time Sutter Junior High was under construction, so the plans were changed to create room for the mural. Because the mural was seriously damaged during its removal, the artist had to be rehired to restore it, a process that took him two years.
