Description
Clouds and angels, with Merle Norman chairman of the board J.B. Nethercutt, his wife, and their immediate family peering out. Another mural, showing clouds and the musical score of the song "Stairway to the Stars," is on the wall along the spiral stairs that connect the mezzanine with the second floor music room. There is a decoratively painted ceiling in the ground-floor antique car showroom.
San Sylmar, completely designed by Heinsbergen, houses the Merle Norman Classic Beauty Collection of functional and fine art. The antique cars, mechanical musical instruments and decorative arts displayed were collected by Nethercutt over a 58 year period. He is the nephew of founder Merle Norman. The easiest way to see the murals is to go on a free two-hour lecture tour, which is available with advance reservations (818 367-2251).
