Description

The mural is dedicated to the contributions made by African-Americans and Latinos to building the United States. The left side is dominated by images from black history, including an African playing a traditional horn, Duke Ellington, dancer Bill "Boyangles" Robinson, singer and political activist Paul Robeson, Nation of Islam leader Elijah Muhammad, and opera singer Marian Anderson. On the mural's right side prominent Mexicans, such as revolutionary Emiliano Zapata, artist Frida Kahlo, and peasant leader Benito Juarez, are depicted. The two sides come together in the middle in a harmonious blending of cultures. The church is located at the vortex of several different cultures.
