Description
The temple itself is a national historic landmark. The murals are an integral part of the sanctuary, covering the base of the imposing 100-foot dome. A highly stylized Creation Lunette, measuring 34 feet by 17 feet, is over the altar. Around the rest of the dome are images of ancient prophets and rabbis (Eastern Lunette), a vision of the Messianic Age when peace will rule the earth (Western Lunette), and an historical frieze depicting Jewish history from the time of Abraham to the discovery of America. The temple gift shop sells an illustrated book on the murals.
