DANIEL MARTINEZ: UNTITLED (AGES)

Date
1976

Location
4910 East Olympic Blvd. (between La Verne and Ferris avenues)
American Legion, exterior

Media Notes
Acrylic on stucco, 2 panels, 40' x 13' and 25' x 13'
Daniel Martinez and crew

Description
This project came about as an exchange when Martinez wanted to use the building's main room for a dance party. His fee for the mural was just enough over the cost of renting the hall to pay for paints. One panel, facing the parking lot, shows soldiers from each branch of the U.S. military service standing in front of a large American flag. The other panel, which faces the street, is a history of Los Angeles from mission days to the present.
