The Mural Conservancy has been around for a decade, and has long regarded as central the organizational principle that volunteerism is the foundation on which its mission is carried out.
Yes, there have been professionals involved in the Mural Conservancy's work over the years, and the Board of Directors is predominantly mural and arts professionals. But they have always worked shoulder to shoulder with mural fans who raise their hands to be counted as activists who support the ongoing health and vitality of both the murals themselves and the mural movement more generally.
Volunteering your time to help further the goals of the Mural Conservancy--helping to preserve our best murals, to document them as thoroughly as possibly, and to educate the public as to their existence and significance--is an important community statement. It's always been a small but special group that has made the Mural Conservancy a potent agent of support for public mural art. And think of the hundreds of thousands of people who daily enjoy the two dozen murals that would otherwise be seriously damaged or destroyed if not for the Mural Rescue Program alone.
If you would like to extend your interest in and support for the mural art of Los Angeles and become a mural activist, MCLA wants to help you do so!
Just fill out and mail in the coupon on this page. The interest or interests you indicate here are strictly preliminary, to help us anticipate people's interests and preferences. If you are already on our volunteer list, but not yet active, we will be contacting you--but certainly feel free to send in the coupon anyway to give us more of an idea about your interests.
